| no partners | | Went to the west side of the northern expansion of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve to do more trails I haven't hiked yet. Got there pretty early at 6:20am, but the parking lot was already pretty full. On top of that, there was huge group of people on the knoll overlook just south of the parking lot. I think they were probably there to check out the sunrise, not sure if they were all together as a group. After parking, I saw that I was parked next to another HAZ ride, an older model grey Xterra. Saw home hikers and bikers, but never found out who it was.
From the parking lot, I took the Hackamore Trail over to the Cone Mt. Trail, then I did a zig zag route to the Rustler and Wrangler Trails, then I took the Powerline Road trail to 118th St, and returned to the trailhead on the Latigo Trail. While I hiking the Cone Mt. Trail, I got sidetracked on another trail that's not on the maps and not maintained by Scottsdale. It had some markers with numbers, 15 and 17. Not sure who maintains or where it goes. I bushwhacked back to the Cone Mt. Trail and went on my way.
Finished just before 11am, getting a good 10+ miles in for the morning. |
