They were so freaked out by the parking that they parked at the ACE Hardware Store which adds at least a mile each way on Anthem streets to this hike.
Weather was still seasonally cool. I am so glad I had the HAZ description. There are a few junctions where the trail is counter-intuitive. The more used trails are likely mountain bike trails. The trails does get steeper and sketchier as you climb. The first saddle has some awesome views. Went up to the peak and poked around. Lee & Leigh motivated me to start the traverse to the Flag Peak. So we went down from this peak and traversed to a false peak. This was only my second hike after 80 days sitting at a desk for tax season, and "Discretion being the better part of valor" I stopped at this false peak and validated Leigh stopping with me since her feet were hurting. Lee humped it to the Flag Peak. He is a retired US Army LT COL and former Provost at Fort Meade. Some people here on HAZ have probably stayed in those accommodations. I have never seen Shangri-La Resort from this perspective. Definitely not worth hauling a spotting scope up for any closer views.
Leigh found a driver and a 5 wood just east of the mountain bike bench turn around. We could not even speculate how they got there. We took them back to the ACE Hardware Store and put them by the bike racks. We hope they get stolen there and recycled through Craigslist. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated A few degraded cactus blooms. Nothing to write home about. |
