| no partners | | this has been on my hiking bucket list for a while - 8 years looking up at those towers whenever in Scottsdale. Finally did it. Planned to be at trailhead around 7am but was slow getting up so almost 8:00 at parking lot. Had read in some logs on here that can be a problem but plenty of empty spots this morning. Dixie Mine Trail is as scenic as many logs said - very nice plants and boulders to look at. First 3 1/2 miles in about an hour, next 1.2 in almost an hour! Just like the description says - some serious grades. Enjoyed the views from top, had a snack, took pictures, watched a hawk hunting below me. Another break about half way down. Not many people out - met only 3 coming down as I was going up, three plus two small groups of 4 going up as I was coming down. A few more on Dixie and a family of bikers but doubt they were going up.
Uploaded pics and geocoded onto my route - maybe motivate anyone reading this to go do it if they have not yet and are considering (side note - such an easy feature that Joe has built in, I gotta use that more often!!)
Edited distance and AEG to match my route from parking lot outside the gated community - perhaps the 9.5 and 2250 on file is from before the new fancy guardhouse with all the fences and feather marked sidewalk to keep us riff raff under control |
