| partners | | | A few weeks ago Vince told me he was planning a Wet Beaver Canyon shuttle hike, the full loop is 22 miles but our plan was to drive up to Waldroup canyon and cut half the distance and do it as a day hike......so off we went. Drove up saturday evening and camped only a few minutes away from our drop zone, the entire hike was a slow going walk over boulders and plenty of swims (15+ at least). With a 620AM start it took us about 1:30 to get down to Wet Beaver.....a rather dry place but the water started coming off the ground soon after and the fun began!.....A couple years ago my friend Elliot and I did an out an back up to the narrows sections and we thought we had got a decent way up the stream.......just to come to realize yesterday that we hadnt at all. In the upper section of Wet Beaver there was signs of many crazy floods all over place,....the entire day went on rather slow and the fun continued on and on until about our 6 when i started to feel rather antsy to find out where a couple years before we had stopped. AT some point as i led the group i saw a Coatimundi down the distance minding his own business....until it saw us and went away. Later in the afternoon we started hearing sounds of thunder down the distance and we grew concerned and went on as quickly as we could passing the balanced rock and then finally onto the Crack, breathing a sigh of relief of getting out of flood danger......only to see lightning south of us. At 340PM we arrived at the TH and headed up the I-17 to pick up the other vehicle, my Mini Cooper couldnt do the last 2 miles as the FR became too rugged for my low clearance car and Vince ran the rest of the way. Made it back into town at 840PM, with sore legs, and a few scrapes on my shins that proved all the fun we had! Church was amAZing this morning! |
