A 55 lbs backpack, numerous amounts of class 3 climbing, endless amounts of boulder hopping, and a few mandatory swims made this a fun and eventful trip!
Before I continue I need to add the fact I brought along two beautiful woman along this journey that I probably would have not invited if I had known what the hike truly consisted of and especially if I was aware of the fact that this was one of the ladies first backpacking trip ever!
With that being said both of the ladies did absolutely incredible and thier inner Wilderness Warrior Woman came out during this trip, very proud of the two of them! It was nice having a woman's touch during a rugged backpacking trip. They built a wildflower wreath, fed me with a variety of delicious food and even tucked me in with a sleeping bag when I was taking a nap. Safe to say I was definitely enjoying thier company!
I was blown away by the beauty and size of the canyon in the particular section we were in. I'm talking massive towering cliff walls that had such a unique look to them that I even had to nickname a few! It was rather surreal upon reaching the main springs of Wet Beaver, the whole area just transforms into such a lush dense green paradise! Numerous cascades, cool deep pools and a picturesque arrangement of healthy vegetation makes it a sensory overload!
I had really had to motivate myself to wake up for sunrise photos, every part of my body wanted to stay in that tent. Taking the role as a "adventure guide" really wore me out not to mention that when we had our two mandatory swims I had two swim back and forth numerous times to put everyone's bag on my floaty. Apparently when I told the girls bring a floaty for this trip they thought it was for lounging around and relaxing and not an absolute necessity. I guess I should have been a little more clear on that, although it was fun to watch them swim through icy cold canyon water, I called them the Wet Beaver mermaids!
The hike out was rough no other way around that, without a heavy pack all the scrambling and boulder hopping would have been much easier obviously but above all it was still enjoyable due to the scenic views and numerous dry waterfalls but yesterday they all still had a little water flow to them. Which was nice because those pools gave me an opportunity to throw my shirt into the water and splash my face with refreshment and also acted as an emergency water source in case one of us ran out since I always carry a filter. During one of our breaks of our ascent I was randomly attacked by one pissed off hornet, first stung me on my bicep and the immediately once more on the back of my ear. This was my first time being stung by one of those suckers and boy did it kind of hurt and as I type this both my bicep and ear are red, hot to the touch and swollen not to mention they both itch like crazy. Iv taken Benadryl, Ibprofuen and iced the areas but neither method seems to work at all. Anything I'm missing?
Anyway it was great to make it out of the canyon and finally walk on some flat ground after 26 hours of uneven surfaces beneath my feet. It's always a treat to see my vehicle after a day spent in the wilderness, we all enjoyed a cold celebratory brew and I sat in a random chair of an old homestead and watched the ladies dance and take pictures in the last bit of wildflowers.
Such a great weekend spent in the Wet Beaver Wilderness and a trip I'll remember forever! |
