| no partners | | Came back to finish what I started last weekend. Everyone else in the gang had other obligations for the weekend, so I decided to solo it.
I was a little worried on the drive up to Flagstaff because I could see coming down into Camp Verde on I-17 that there were clouds hiding the peaks again like last week. Upon reaching Flagstaff, the clouds cleared up a bit which revealed some snow on the peaks left over from the blanket they got last week. EXCITING!
I got started a little later than last weekend because the forecast looked perfect for today, sunny skies with a 0% chance of precipitation. I was at the trailhead around 9:45 am and at the summit around 12:45 pm.
The snow made things slightly trickier after the saddle. I had to take it slow past the saddle because of how slippery it was in some places. I will admit however, that the shoes I was wearing had very little tread left on them.
On the flip side, the snow added immensely to the beauty of the area. The mix of fall foliage and snowy peaks gave me flashbacks of fall as a kid in northern Utah.
When I arrived there wasn't a very big crowd and some solitude was had along the trail on the way up, unfortunately the summit was not one of those places. The parking lot was slightly more full when I returned, and I passed a lot of people going up on the last mile down.
On the way down, Route Scout stopped recording my tracks on the last mile.
I'm glad I got to summit the mountain one more time before winter, but I already want to go back... |
