The hike is a short one, about 3 miles round trip. Due to popularity and the necessity to cross private land hikes are arranged through the Avonlea Museum. A local volunteer will then meet you at the trail-head three miles east of town and act as guide. A donation of $10.00 per person for the museum is requested. We actually had 15 in our group on a sunny Fall Sunday afternoon.
From the trail-head we walked north-east across native prairie and dropped into the valley. Hiking west through the Badlands the area eventually opened to Long Creek and we turned South to return to the trail-head. |
