| no partners | | Off at 1:20PM to 46 degrees and sunny. I was hoping it would be a little warmer, but I guess I will have to go down to Phoenix for true warmth (and add to the winter congestion ). Nice in the sun and a little chilly in the places on the trail that don't see sunshine. Made it down to the Lookout Point, approximately 3.9 miles down the trail. This would be my turnaround point. Walked out to the rock outcropping and did the short climb up. It is a nice view up there. Walked back to the trail, took a little break, then headed back up. I really enjoy the couple of short switchback sections, but not too keen on the flat contouring. At least it does go up and down here and there. Due to the lack of sunshine and breeze, it was fairly cold from the shelter until the sun broke out on the last 600 feet of the climb. I was pleased that the rocks at the Waldron junction were not cold, so took a seat for a bit. The sun breaking through at the end was wonderful and made the hike for me. Glorious sunshine Crossed paths with 12 other people, all with the exception of one being backpackers and most ascending. I would like to get back to the Tonto junction in the near future. |
