| no partners | | This was my second time in Aravaipa Canyon, coming in from the west entrance. We had a group of hikers from Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch in Florence. The weather was nearly perfect, with total sun and no wind, and temperatures in the lower 70s. Like last year, we found the water cold in the first part of the morning, but either daytime warming or just getting used to the water made for very comfortable walking in the water by mid-day.
The trees were not yet in their orange fall colors, with only a small number of trees beginning to turn orange.
The water depth was very similar to last year with typical depths anywhere between ankle and mid-calf. There were deeper holes but they could easily be avoided.
Early in the hike, we came on a pair of deer that were fairly cautious about our presence. We kept an eye out for wildlife, but didn’t see anything until at least two javelin were briefly seen after we left the creek bottom and were making our way back to the parking lot. |
