| no partners | | I've been trying to do this hike for years, and it's been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I had two objectives for this hike: see Aravaipa canyon and see a Coati in the wild (which I had never done). I'm happy to report success on both counts.
A friend and I were spending our last Spring Break of Grad school by checking some hikes off of our list, so we did Havasupai over the weekend, got back and had a day to rest, and then set off to do Aravaipa.
We spent the first day exploring the main canyon and Horse Camp canyon. We originally set up camp right next to Horse Camp canyon, then had to retreat to a different campsite further upstream due to an influx of a thousand flies.
The next morning on the way out we ran into about 15 Coati making their way up the canyon. We then enjoyed a relaxing stroll out of the canyon and back up to the car.
Overall, this place was as peaceful and serene as I had been told, and the wildlife lived up to expectation as well. I'll definitely be back. |
