| no partners | | Did this from Peralta to First Water. I think this is a better direction since the sun is either behind you or over your left shoulder for almost the entire hike. Also, you get the big hill out of the way right up front and pretty much cruise for the rest of the hike. Warm out there today. Still a reasonable amount of water and no gnats yet. The only new section of trail for me was the one mile stretch of the Dutchman just north of the Peralta trail junction to where the Black Mesa trail cuts off. Nice to finally get that done. Would have been faster but fell in behind nine riders for the last mile. Rode drag and ate their dust all the way in to the trail-head. I was moving faster than they were but there is just no good way to pass a string of nine riders from behind when on foot. I found it amazing that nine ponies could generate so many fresh piles in a single mile. Horses. Don't see the attraction. The other ten miles were great.
My darling wife got out of bed at 0530 to help me place my truck at First Water, then drove me over to Peralta and dropped me off. What a gal! |
