| no partners | | My first time up Picacho. A more fun and interesting hike than I thought it would be. The guide books and the trail signage warn that it is a "difficult" climb. I discounted these warnings due to the easy access and proximity to major metro areas. Really an urban hike. I figured that those in positions of responsibility would exaggerate the difficulty to discourage the hordes of newbies and those not prepared, wanting to keep the number of rescues to a minimum.
Thinking this would be a short and easy hike I took a mixed party of experienced hikers and newbies, including my wife. With the cabled sections it turned out to be a whole lot more challenging than I expected. Was really worried that I had gotten them all in deeper than they would be comfortable with. They showed me! Had a fabulous time and finished off the day at my favorite Korean barbecue joint; Takamatzu on Elliot and Arizona Ave. (a decent sushi place but stellar Korean!)
A good time was had by all, and now they have harrowing tales of danger with which to awe their friends and family. |
