| partners | | Jason came up with a shuttle hike idea for this one. We met at the already crowded Peralta Trailhead at 630am and left his truck there. We took my truck to not quite as full, but still almost full First Water Traihead.
The Dutchman is in really good shape from the First Water TH up until the Bull Pass junction. After that, a little overgrown in spots.
The weather was perfect and the forecast clear skies ended up being clouds moving fast all day. The clouds made for some dramatic shadows and sunshine on the needle and the cliffs along the trail
We made good time to the Peralta/Dutchman junction. And took a snack break before beginning the long hike up to the Fremont Saddle.
The signs of the fire started as we got closer to the needle. It’s healed a little, but most of those roasted trees ain’t coming back. Grass and catclaw are becoming the new “normal” out there.
We made it to the saddle and joined the masses. Not as bad as I was expecting. It was probably worse earlier.
We crossed a party of 6 hikers a couple times starting up Peralta and then again going back down. There were some other groups going up as well.
The cherry on top of the day was coming across a nice herd of sheep right below Peralta Canyon. A big ram and his 6 member ewe harem. Very close to the trail, below the Cave Trail.
Besides the extreme dry conditions, this area is looking good.
