Hank and I decided to take two short hikes off of FR203 to search for Indian Ruins in areas I had scouted on Google Earth. The plan was to take it easy so we would be ready for a more difficult hike the next day. This first hike was only 1.4 miles with a short bushwhack off of FR 203 and started from our campsite in an unnamed drainage - the next drainage down FR203 after passing Billy Lawrence Canyon. On this hike we found a rock wall ruin only a 100 yds from camp but it was from historic times. Probably the foundations of an old mining or ranching cabin. We found no ruins on the two hilltops we explored overlooking Cherry Creek where I expected to find signs of ancient habitation. But there were some nice views on a beautiful morning in the Sierra Ancha. |
