First up I decided to take on the longest hike/ascent of the day... that is if you could call three miles long.
The first part was quite easy, just following an old track to 'New Water Well' which does not appear to be new by any means. By the looks of the windmill, it hasn't been operational in many years.
Instead of taking my planned route almost straight up from the windmill to the summit I decided to take a wide clockwise arc along the ridge hopefully for more photo ops of Apache Peaks. Unfortunately due to facing the early morning sun it was not to be. Oh well, on to the summit.
At the summit was a small rock cairn, which lo and behold featured a small bottle with a summit log. Being such a nondescript peak it was a bit of a surprise but sine there was a log, it wasn't a surprise to see en entry for Mark Nichols. I'm thinking he may have put Bob Martin's name on it. (The actual entry was 'Bob Martn ???')
Ok, pan photos and video out of the way it's time to move on... and across the ridge to the west. The end of the ridge was very steep so I did a small counter-clockwise arc along game trails to avoid the steepest part. From there it was a short jaunt back to the Jeep, where because my stomach was already growling loudly I got an early start on lunch....
Although the longest this was by far the easiest ascent of the day.
