After spending the night outside Lone Pine under an almost full moon, we woke up with Whitney in our face before heading to Yosemite.
Climbing SR 120, it was apparent that there was so much more snow compared to last year when I came through Yosemite in mid-June. Snow patches started at around 8000ft.
We made it to the Sunshine Lakes TH around 9 A.M.
Within the first 1/4th mile we were fording a creek, a huge contrast to what we were doing only a few days earlier on the AZT. In general, there was water everywhere, still lots of snow melt at the higher elevations to melt.
The hike to the peak is a ok, but most of the time you're in the trees with limited views.
The peak was better than I could have imagined. 360 degree views of Yosemite valley and the high country. Mind blowing!
Could possibly fit in to one of the top ten day hikes I've done. Might try the other way from the Valley next time, I hear that is overall more scenic. |
