| no partners | | I had planned a hike near Seven Springs but upon arrival the tracks I'd loaded on my GPS were not to be found. First time this has happened to me with my current software/hardware approach - what's more now back at home I can see the tracks when the GPS is plugged into Basecamp but not in the GPS' own Track Manager - more investigation needed.
I had no plan B so I just winged it. I continued up Seven Springs Rd, up and down the big hill and started walking at the low point, just south of 51 Ranch. The drainage here is not Lime Creek but it soon joins it - there are actually quite a few tributaries coming together in this area.
I had to hop a couple fences but there were no keep out signs. Much of the time I followed a path which seems to be used by cows and horseback riders. The creek had a fair amount of water and was a little overgrown in places. Pretty soon I headed up to a shelf to look around for Indian ruins. I did see some low walls and pottery pieces in a few places but this was a popular bovine area, and well trampled. (I saw a lot of fresh manure but no cows.)
After moving up to the next shelf I figured I'd just keep going up the ridge...eventually to the high point. It was cold and blowy on top. Coming down wasn't much fun with plenty of catclaw and nasty footing. Things got better though when I got to another nice drainage, This one had been swept clean for the most part and its numerous small drops and pools were easy to skirt.
An improvised plan B but not much to recommend this one. |
