We did the trip from Ridgway, which is on the west side of the mountain range, mostly because that was our base for Sneffels. It didn't look very far on the map, but you have to go north to Montrose on US 550, east on US 50 to Blue Ridge Reservoir, southeast on CO 25 across Blue Mesa, south on CO 149 to Lake City, just to get to the 7 mile dirt road into the Wetterhorn TH. It took us almost 3 hours to get the TH, which was only 15 miles away as the crow flys. By all means, stay in Lake City or camp somewhere closer the night before.
There is lots of water in the creeks.
I put most of the other details into the description I posted yesterday. |
