I needed to get out of town after being cooped up for nearly a month for various reasons. Kind of tough with the baseball playoffs in full swing too. This is fall color prime time, and I knew from talking to Jack last year he had not been up to Pinal Peak. Figured I could squeeze this in and asked if he wanted to see some new territory. Why of course, so we met in Globe Wednesday morning and headed up. Recent trip reports let us know we wouldn't be disappointed. I will say this, the colors were not as impressive as in some other years, but there was more than enough to make us happy.
First we hiked the Ferndell Trail, then took a break at the upper campground, before heading over to do a short descent on the Icehouse Trail into the aspen hot zone. Following that it was back down to Globe for Mexican food (some good restaurants in town...this time we went to El Ranchito). Solid choice! Jack then headed back home and I headed for the Travelodge on the hill, where I had a reservation for the night (good lodging with a great view). I wanted to see the Dodgers/Cubs game, which is the main reason I spent the night there. Worked out perfectly and the Cubs even won the game. Maybe me getting out of the house broke the spell and got them winning again! (Who said sports fans aren't superstitious?)
