| no partners | | My third hike with Kevin, a recent acquaintance from NE who is spending the Fall/Winter in the valley. He picked the first two hikes (Flatiron and Peak 5057). I suggested this one. After the requisite warnings about exposure and such, he agreed to the hike.
Although a tad chilly when we started at first light, it warmed up to t-shirt weather by mid-morning and stayed that way. The hike was uneventful until Kevin slipped on the ball-bearing slope, but he landed squarely on his pumpkin and stayed right where he fell. Whew!
At the summit, we high-fived, signed the register and soaked in the views. We had an early lunch under blue skies with just a wisp of a breeze. Perfect! Back on the lower deck near the stern, I heard Kevin say it was the scariest thing he ever did but he had the same kid in the candy store look he had on the Flatiron.
We didn't see anyone but a few campers on the way out, but we passed 20 or more hikers on the way back, including a large group on the deck heading up.
Great hike on a gorgeous day in paradise. |
