From Fremont Saddle, I took the route west of the saddle (see Super Dacite Loop) and headed up to the ridge above the saddle. I stayed on this route until it starts to bend SW towards west boulder canyon saddle. I then went off trail in a NW direction following the ridge. I found a cairn, then another, and thought I might be on to something. Until I cliffed out at the end of the cairns. I checked for possible routes down, found one that might work, started down, got skewered by an agave plant partially hidden in some other brush and decided this wasn't a good idea. I'll have to come back up and it will probably be warm by then. Time to call it a day.
On the way back, I noticed what appeared to be an arch in a cluster of hoodoos to my west. Since my Wicked Wall trek didn't work out, I could at least give that a shot. On the way to the arch, I spotted what I think is the Wicked Wall Spire and a possible route out there. I'll have to give that some more thought.
Took a few pics of the arch, then tried to work my up to the top of the cluster of hoodoos. I ran into a wall of vegetation and decided for a second time to call it a day. This time I did.
This was a relatively short, but very enjoyable hike on a gorgeous day in desert. |
