The hike: I went back a week later with another friend as I just had to share this beautiful place. It had just rained and so naturally the road was terrible. After a very bad experience in the mud I parked the truck on the side and we hiked the whole way to the trailhead. This made the hike an extra 3 miles one way for a total of 10 miles instead of 4. But it was well worth it because walking through the mountains and seeing the views absolutely blew my mind. I couldn't tell you why I am so enamored with these mountains but I just love them. Definitely want to come back and hike some of the other roads that are all over them. It was a bit chilly but we quickly warmed up with the uphill walks and soon made it to the trailhead. I almost got us lost a few times before I decided to trust Route Scout and actually follow it. Once I saw the rusted gate I knew that we were safe. We made it to the swingset and proceeded to hang out and swing and marvel at the sights. My friend absolutely loved it! The mountains were covered in clouds and it was so amazing to be in them. On the way back out I spotted my phone on the ground and was so excited! It even worked still! I was amazed to get it back and retrieve all my pictures off of it. I will definitely be returning here for an overnight backpack as a way to learn how to backpack since the trail is so nice and not that long and the ground by the swingset is nice and flat. Can't wait til it gets warmer!

The trail: The trail is an old road that is fairly easy to hike. A little uphill but not enough to kill the lungs. There is a turn off where you begin to climb up the mountain that is easy to miss. You will see a rusted gate that marks the entrance of the trail on the side of the mountain. This part of the trail isn't too bad to follow either. Not killer on the lungs. The trail is faint but still there and pretty easy to follow to the swingset. Once you find the old mine and the rusted trailer there is a jug on the ground by some bushes. You can follow that down and there is a faint trail that leads to the swingset which is on the left. The dirt road to get there however is a bit more hairy. There are rocks that jut out so a vehicle with clearance is a must. There is also a really muddy patch after the second cattleguard you cross over so beware of it. When it is snowing or warm it is nicer, but when it is rainy it is terrible. Definitely want four wheel drive on that part. Any questions just ask!
