| partners | | Chris picked out a loop with some side options to old mines to hike. We stayed in the higher elevation to avoid the heat. There was a breeze at times, corner shade on the hike up FR201 and even some clouds later so it worked well.
The side route on FR1683 was easy going on the way in. A lot of mine memorabilia (AKA junk) along the way. We took an alternate road to start on the way out which was overgrown but we lived.
The FR201/FR201A loop was good. The hike up FR201 was cool with shade on several turns. We did see one coues deer which spooked when I rounded a corner. It was interesting to see the ends of the South Fork & Gold Ridge trails. We hiked that loop with several others in 2009. (16 years ago)
There were 3 hikers with binoculars looking into the trees from the road. We guessed they were bird watching. There was a red Jeep parked by the upper intersection with FR201A which was probably theirs.
The hike down FR201A had nice views. Views of FR201, Mt Ord, Saddle Mountain, Four Peaks, Mt Peeley, Sheep Mountain ,the Superstition Ridgeline, etc. The down went back up several times but not for long sections.
FR201A had some vehicle parts along the way. It had some steep, loose and rocky sections that could be a challenge. It's an interesting stroll and better to watch others drive the road. Their are several side trails/roads that would be nice to explore. A good day making the best of the warm weather.
