| partners | | Tracey wanted cooler temps and I didn't want to drive too far so Gold Ridge Trail from FR 201 was the plan. A plan which lasted a few miles out FR 201... I don't know if was the rough road or what, but the right leg pain came in waves while driving so it was either turn back (which wouldn't ease it) or get out and start walking. So I pulled over at Forest Road 191 and we set off for where?
Well, if we keep going and I can walk-it-off we might as well head for the Mazzie Swingset. FR 191 was easy enough even with an ever changing mixture back-and-forth of smooth dirt, small rocks and larger sharp rocks. Although FR 191 is in direct sun, we had a cool breeze off-and-on so it felt great.
Once we left FR 191 for the ascent toward the peak I was wishing I brought my hedge shears as the Manzanita has overgrown the old mine road quite a bit since I was last here in August of 2016. But we pushed through and along with a few dead-ends just past the mine we arrived at the swings.
Right away Tracey was on the parallel bars... until a bit of dizziness told her not-so-fast. As for me? No swinging, no bars, no nothing... my leg pain was either gone or zoned-out so I didn't want to push it.
Although there are metal bands in the rubber 'seats' they appear ready to break, and of course the 'glider' has been out-of-commission since, well who knows when. Tracey said something about bringing out replacement seats next trip, which sounds like a fine idea. To fix the glider 'correctly' would require welding, but I think I may have figured out an easier solution... which will have to wait until I get a chance to try it.
On the return trip we had a more consistent breeze and my leg seemed pain-free so the only thing that made feel like it was dragging out was the what? another corner? and another? But even feeling less-than-ideal at the start, I felt great at the end. And so all's well that ends well. |
