| no partners | | | I only had a couple of hours of hiking time available once I got to the trailhead, so I figured on an up-and-back on Pyramid. Nice climb, nice views, and I always like the deep canyon on the north side of the Pyramid ridge. Once I got close to National, though, and I'd made good time, I thought that I might almost kind-of maybe have time for the loop. Loops are good, and I like that ridgeline part of National where there's so much solitude and the distance views both ways (well, on days when the air isn't so murky). Had to pass up the side trip up Goat Hill this time, and just did the quick trip down Lost Ranch Mine. Did I make the two-hours time I'd planned on? Well, no -- but it was a really good hike, and I still easily made it to my junior-high volunteering time. (Kind of the opposite of solitude ...) |
