Started at the triangle parking area, and ran up the road the half-mile to the Ranger Trail crossing. Hiked Ranger up to National, then followed National over to the junction with Lost Ranch Mine trail. And, of course, visited Goat Hill! Ran most of the time on National, but of course my running speed probably isn't that much faster than some of the hiking speeds I read about. (Someone with initials including the letter J comes to mind.) Ranger isn't that exciting, but it's worth it as a quick way to get to that wonderful stretch of ridgetop on National between Ranger and the Lost Whatever trails. Those views, and the quiet out there, never gets old; didn't see anybody once I got off Ranger! No snakes either; maybe it was too early in the morning for them, or they were visiting another part of South Mountain again. |
