| no partners | | After 25 years being back up here in the Valley, I finally went up the Cholla Trail on Camelback. Camelback in general is too crowded, and the one time I thought about Cholla, the cars were backed up on Invergordon halfway to ... I don't know ... McDowell? Baseline? Anyway, there weren't too many cars this time on a winter Tuesday morning, and it was worth doing the hike. The first part (after the road) wasn't that exciting, but the upper half was good. It met the trail description of "negotiating huge jagged boulders" and being on the edge. I only led a couple of people astray. I was going faster and passed them, so I guess they figured I knew the trail (umm ... no) -- and they followed me up a few rocks that were definitely harder than the main trail. Good thing they didn't get stuck! Plenty of people on top. Next time I'll bring a bag to gather up all the orange peels that people have left up there. The views weren't great with the haze/smog/inversion, but nice January temperatures made up for it. |
