Maybe not well ... since I couldn't figure out how to attach a triplog to the bottom of my photos. I've hiked a lot of South Mountain in the years since moving from Tucson, and I started thinking -- wouldn't it be cool to have done all the South Mountain trails that are at least official enough to have some kind of name from somebody? So last spring and in the late summer ( ) I started filling in the pieces. The last one (that I know of) was Alta, and due to the heat after I could drop the kids off at school, I did the hike in two parts a couple of days apart. The first was from the west trailhead (really Estrella Drive) to Maricopa Peak, and the second was the east trailhead (triangle parking area) to Maricopa Peak. Not much clean air over the city -- and hot temperatures -- but some great scenery along the trail, including impressive trail-building on that north-side traverse. |
