Clear skies; views to the Catalinas easily, and it was funny how deep the Romero Pass notch on the Catalinas looked early in the morning from Telegraph Pass. The words "Telegraph Pass" are the key to this morning's trip: I was a wimp and drove to Telegraph Pass instead of hiking up. Ran most of the way from there to Buena Vista and then back the same way. On the map, National looks like it just contours really nicely on the north side below the towers, but there are a couple of good uphills in that stretch. I totally guessed on the elevation gain for the whole trip, working from the map. Best running definitely is on the section from the Holbert junction to Buena Vista; nice surroundings and nothing too steep. |
