| no partners | | We escorted a youth crew trail-south from the TH at Geronimo about a mile to where the trail drops 15-20 feet through a rock layer. High steps through the brush and rocks were required. A huge boulder sitting at a diagonal in the trail defies movement so it will remain, the trail will go around. A big stump was in the middle of the trail immediately below the rocks, so that can go. This ugly trail-hickey has been on the list for quite some time and today was the beginning of the end.
The crew is pretty rock savvy; we studied the situation, with appropriate body part scratching, cut back the encroaching brush so we could get the overall picture and came up with an initial plan. A spot was cleared below a huge rock and it was dropped in with a couple pry bars. But it landed upside down and was too big to flip over, so it didn't work there. We dug and pried it a little further down the hill where it became the perfect anchor of the repair. Two heavy slabs of sandstone were lugged in and added to the plan. Other repairs were on going when I left at lunchtime, leaving direction to spend whatever time it takes to make things pretty.
Two deadfall on the way out, one across the trail in Webber Creek, might be addressed this weekend.
