I got invited to go backpacking with a group that moves at a more relaxed pace than I am used to. This was my first time on the highline trail and my first time to do an AZT section in one trip. It was fun to slow down through the pines and I was surprised by the redrock formation on the trail. Even though it's been incredibly dry, there were still quite a few perennial creeks (see water reports below). We spent the first night about a 1/2 mile past the Pine TH, and the second at Bray Creek.

An interesting event occurred around 6pm on our second day. As we approached Bray Creek, I heard large animal movement ahead. Looking up, I noticed an elk running across the hillside about 1000 feet away. It was being chase by two coyotes...no wait, that doesn't make sense. WOLVES! We watched from a short distance as two Mexican Grey Wolves chased a large elk through the trees. I've never witnessed a predatory interaction like that in the wild. Definitely a highlight on the highline!

water pipe had nice, consistent flow. There's an anthropogenic creek channel forming under the pipe outflow.

3 inches of standing water in the well box. Beautiful bright green cottonwoods, uphill at the actual spring.

Beautiful creek with decent flow. This one really surprised me since there's been minimal recharge in the fractured bedrock aquifers below the Rim.

Solid perennial flow. Obviously below bankfull, therefore: light flow.
