| no partners | | The Arizona Trail Association is moving ~ 1.2 miles of the AZT off the powerline road section through Oracle State Park on to ~1.7 + miles of new single track. Don’t hold me to that second number until it’s done. After several layout trips over the last year, construction started Monday and will continue until complete, we’re hoping for Thursday or Friday. The tough part of deeper bench cutting (south half) is complete up to the saddle; the northern ½ should go faster because the side slope isn’t as steep and there is much less rock.
August doesn’t offer prime trail construction temps but it has been tolerable, especially in the breeze higher up on the ridge. REI is sponsoring a work event October 2 to work on the finish and polish; hopefully we get some rain on it before then to settle the soil and indicate the drain issues.
A public map "Oracle State Park realignment" is posted but linking it here is beyond my HAZ technical abilities. |
