| no partners | | Bob and I did an early morning hike in the Competitive Track Area of McDowell Mountain Park.
Starting on the Technical Loop, we hiked over to the intersecting service road which (eventually) leads back to the Sport Loop and then back to McDowell Mountain Park Road. However, well before either of those intersections are some large "arrow" road signs. I've often wondered why these road signs are present on an infrequently driven road. In any case, just before reaching these signs is another road which leads down to Stoneman/Pemberton Wash.
We took Stoneman Wash south until we hit a feeder wash which we took west to the Pemberton Trail. From there, we gained a nearby ridge and then made our way to another wash which led us to the Long Loop. We took the Long Loop south for a short ways until we came to another wash which we took SE then E which intersected another part of the Long Loop. We returned on that last segment of the Long Loop.
We saw a tortoise while hiking on the Tech Loop. I had seen a tortoise - perhaps even this same tortoise - in almost exactly the same location in 2014.
The temperature was cool when we started - in the mid seventies, but warmed up to nearly 90 by the time we were done. It was also quite humid (for AZ).
Bob started feeling poorly in the last mile of our hike. He later told me that he had not drunk as much from his hydration reservoir as he thought he had. |
