While Mt. Ord does not approach the Inner Basin in terms of beauty (and cooler temps), it was a great workout, and with an early start, we enjoyed a lot of solitude and were back home by 1:30 pm.
Enjoyed shade nearly all the way up to the top on the western-facing slopes of the climb.
Took just under three hours to make it to the top at a leisurely pace. No tower invite on this day; just a good barking at from the ranger's dog out on the tower veranda.
2.5 hours on the return. Got passed by a mountain biker and two motorcyclists on the way down, but otherwise had the decommissioned part of the road/trail to ourselves.
By the time we reached the car, temps were approaching 100, and we were happy to be back in the A/C.
For a 4,000 ft. AEG hike, this one feels pretty comfortable. |
