Color, I wanted to see the autumnal pallet.
Bear Canyon Lake, never been, wanted to see it.
Search a Beaver side canyon for color
See Spring Trail - The color is starting. The next two weeks should be prime.
See Canyon Trail - light to moderate until you hit the half way point. The trees are in their prime all the way to the top from here.
At the top, we saw our first evidence of the logging/thinning going on up here.
We took FR208 to the south TH of Bear Canyon Lake and dropped to the lake.
We decided to do a CCW track around the east side, following use trails. The trail got a bit thin and the side hill slope got a bit bothersome after a while, and Billy Goat Joe just needed to go uphill. We skedaddled up to the nearest FR and made our way to the dam.
Plenty of campers on this road, as this is the easiest access to the lake. The road takes you right to the dam.
I was hoping to see some fall color around the lake, but saw nothing but conifers. This is a scenic lake that I'll need to come back to.
We headed westish out of the lake to sample some Beaver Canyon. Spotty color, with the majority of it on the ground on the way there. It's easy going in Beaver Canyon. I'm curious how it got its name.
From here we headed over to a side canyon north of Rattlesnake Ridge looking for color. After striking out for 3/4 of a mile. Joey Goat felt the need to climb out.
We TH'ered the Forest Roads back to See Canyon, to enjoy the colors back down to the truck.
Absolutely perfect temps all day long. |
