About ¾ mile up canyon we split off and headed for the See Spring area checking out the source. From there Bruce had the plan to continue up canyon above the spring and off trail to the rim. It was rough in spots with two waterfalls to bypass but definitely scenic and eventually we made it to the rim.
Once on the rim we headed towards Bear Canyon Lake with pass by the Butler Bennet Place which you can see clearly on satellite. Eventually we made it to Bear Canyon Lake and had some lunch in a nice spot overlooking the lake.
After lunch we followed some old tracks over to Beaver Canyon and hiked upstream. Beaver Canyon was surprisingly scenic and with the recent rains it had significant water. I think everyone really enjoyed this section and easy hiking even though it was technically off trail.
Near the top of the canyon it started to get brushy so we climbed up on Rattlesnake Ridge to get back to the rim. Also had to hike about ¾ mile of FR 300 where it connects up with See Canyon Trail. From the rim and See Canyon Trail we followed that all the way back to the trailhead. However, on the way down we did see some good stretches of color especially on the upper section. Lower down it’s still a week or two from peak. Great hike with little bit of everything on variety of terrain!
