Being as it was a holiday weekend, the place was full by the time we rolled in shortly after dark. It is the kind of place that you want to make your reservation well in advance, which Deborah had done. I liked our spartan cabin (Bear) and the outdoor setup is real nice for meal prep.
Deborah grilled some turkey burgers and I supplied chips and salsa for our evening meal. Two curious raccoons liked the aroma coming from the grill and decided to make a move on us, but I got out a hiking pole and made some sharp sounds tapping it on the fire ring and they were gone. I was actually surprised they weren't more persistent, but I'm sure they "made the rounds" after we went to bed.
In the morning Deborah went for a soak and I sat around enjoying my coffee. After packing up, our next stop was down the road at Dankworth Pond. I had not been there either and really enjoyed walking around the pond and watching the bird action. It is a very relaxing place to spend time, especially going to the far end and taking in the view from a bench with the Pinaleno Mountains in the background. |
