With portions of 11 trails in this loop, Javelina and Pyrite got my attention most. Weather was darn near perfect through out and I imagine the happy green vegetation is in prime. This loop is a consistent roller coaster and I really liked it overall. Keep in mind I enjoy SoMo, Piestewa-Mojave and other valley loops too.
Just one Luke AFB jet overhead. More intriguing than annoying. The helicopters around Sedona & GC don't really bother me either but I guess there's a pinch of coolness about a screaming eagle.
Granite or Chuckwalla on the return had a shocking amount of [ Dodder ] for at least a half mile. This parasite slowly kills the host plant. In this case creosote, brittlebush and everything in its path. It was even draped over patches of lupine.
Synopsis
Left with a better impression than anticipated. Like many valley mountain parks, solid in-season hiking. Nearby Estrella Park is flat and lifeless if you seek a mellow stoll. Doubtful I'll break away from my Valley favs but it's nice to have the option. Great to hike with the native local kids. No closed road signage. |
