The last time I hiked in South Mountain Park was over 10 years ago.. too long!
With such nice, above average temps this last weekend of Jan'18 and for me some much needed exercise. Earlier the previous week Renee suggested we take her two young sons, my unoficial nephews, to hike from the Mormon TH up to the National Trail to Fat Mans Pass then through Hidden Valley and back to our Park at the Morman TH..
I was in!
I had a little concern with the stamina of her to be 5 year old this coming April with his short legs needing to negotiate up and back down the high elevation gain/loss, rocky Mormon Trail, but no problem. Moms have a talent for planning these kind of more demanding kid outings: after lunch, a pack of Skittles each for encentive to reach Fat Mans Pass, then another minor candy treat upon passing through the Hidden Valley Tunnel at the National Trail X, and last but not least- a Sonic slurpee of their choice after we finish and are back to the vehicle. I drove us all to and from our hike and was lucky enough to also rate a Sonic Cherry/Lime slurpee.
