The parking lot was full both when we arrived and when we left. A fair number of folks out on the trail today. At the junction with National trail, we took the Hidden Valley loop counter-clockwise this time. I always love Hidden Valley, and Fatman's Pass is just a fun little spot.
On the return trip, we decided to veer off on Mormon Loop for an alternate descent. Never been on Mormon Loop before. Good views of the city. I think we missed an earlier opportunity to turn down and ended up exiting into one of the new "private" neighborhoods with every street sign labeled "private street" and signs indicating that we were definitely not welcome. No doubt, someone in the neighborhood watch had an assault rifle trained on us at all times. I'm pretty sure the HOA president from Over the Hedge lives there. Amazingly, we managed to navigate the unfriendly zone without incident. (Trust me, HOA nazis, I would have preferred to have found a nice trail around the neighborhood, but couldn't find one.) When we got to the locked gate to the outside world, we were about to scale it to get out, but ended up just following a car through. Other than the boring last mile of pavement back to our car, this was a great hike as usual! |
