Completed a fun loop in January I wanted to backlog after officially joining HAZ this week. I enjoyed the direction of this loop and fit our schedule nicely, hiking in Friday night and doing two longer days Saturday and Sunday.

Arriving at First Water TH around 5:30p, the parking lot was almost empty except for a couple cars. Hiked in on Dutchman Trail and swung on to Second Water Trail.

The sunset was hitting the rocks just right, especially Four Peaks and Battleship Mountain. Garden Valley looked like a nice flat spot to camp, but we had a long couple days planned, so we kept on. Made it to Second Water Spring after about 3 miles, where we saw maybe a beaver(?) at the spring. Awesome campsite with a serious rock recliner and the pools were good enough to filter. Cornish Pasty never tasted so good  . Saw the space station go skyline to skyline (my buddy has a NASA alert set up -- highly recommend).

Day two, finished off Second Water and headed down Boulder Canyon. Connected to Cavalry, which took us up and over the pass for the first half mile. Caught a glimpse of a coatimundi tail in the brush. At Marsh Valley, headed east on Dutchman and made it to Charlebois Spring for lunch. Plenty of water and an impressive campsite.

Decided to camp at LaBarge and settled on the little nook to the right of the spring. Was a little tight for 3 guys but worked fine for a tent and a cowboy camper. Lots of shade. Met most of our neighbors as they came and went for water, of which there was an ever-flowing box.

Day three completed the loop by going around Bluff Spring Mountain. Headed south on Dutchman, connected on Bluff Spring, and then up and over Terrapin Trail. I was glad we were going downhill on Terrapin! At the top noticed a campsite with a fire ring burned in the the side of some boulders.

Took Dutchman all the way back to First Water TH. Pretty exposed section other than some large boulders and glad we were able to fill up from LaBarge at the beginning of the day.

All-in-all a great trip and definitely have my eye on camping at Charlebois in the future.
