| no partners | | I was clear on Sunday and decided to hike back toward Music Canyon to visit the alcove I saw last time going up Music Mountain. I saw Peters Mesa has a summit (on my GPS) and decided to add that and loop back down. On the way in I saw Larry on trail. We talked Supes for a while and parted ways as he was heading for the top of Black Top Mesa. The trail was good and the clouds kept the heat off. Peters trail is a little faint but easy enough to follow. Just beyond the county line I hiked up Peters Mesa and hiked southeast to the high point at 3954. The Dutchman hunters don't make out to this section as there was no garbage in site. I stopped at the summit for a snack then made my way down toward Music Canyon. The hike in was easy for a while then came a few drops but nothing the old goat couldn't get down. I saw one alcove off to the side once I made it over, there were two cave dwellings. I could not see the alcove I was looking for and thought I was in the wrong place. After getting home I realized I passed right under it but apparently couldn't see it from below. Next time I get out that way to hike up Black Mountain I can detour over to it. There may have been a lot of hikers out but I had the trails to myself beyond Bull Pass. |
