I was out for about two hours, paddling around (a little) and fishing (most of the time). Got zero bites, and eventually the wind drove me back to the marina - I was colder at 10:30 than when I started.
After putting away the boat and changing clothes and gearing up with binoculars and camera, I set off on the trail clockwise from the marina. I had absolutely no intention of hiking the entire loop, but once I got going it was so nice that I couldn't possibly think of a better way to spend the day. This is just an ideal hike for my money.
Only crossed paths with 3 other hikers, and saw a few anglers and picnickers along the shore here and there.
Amazing birding and a few elk.
I had wanted to see the Bald Eagle nest, but it didn't seem to be where I remembered it from years past. Eventually, far from where I remembered it to be, I stumbled upon the Closed Area signs indicating the nest was near. I was in front of the signs when I finally saw the nest! I was closer to it than I expected to be - one of the parents was home, so I sat down and took a few sets of photos before heading down the hill away from the nest. As I made my way back to shore, I kept encountering more and more signs that I had been behind (on the wrong side of) ... I never purposely went behind a sign, but still felt a little guilty.
