| no partners | | Starting at what my friend calls Aspen Corner on Snowbowl Road, we followed Arizona Trail Passage #34 to the Bismarck Lake trail, and then on to the "lake." A gorgeous day, with big puffy clouds, but mostly sunny. In the afternoon there was a bit of thunderstorm activity in the distance, mostly to the north. We saw several deer. It's still very green, and there were a lot of different kinds of wildflowers. In the aspen groves we found some yellow leaves on the ground but couldn't see any on the trees--they still look green. Only a couple more weeks of summer remain in this high country. After that there will be the season of smelly old dead leaves, followed by the Siberia-like winter season. But I won't be around this area to suffer that. I'm no pain seeker!
My GPS showed we hiked 9 miles, but it has been off for a long time. His showed what is more likely to be correct: 8+ miles. The distressing thing is that lately my GPS is showing high, but posting very low. It posted as 7.02. From other accounts, that's about a mile too low, so I am going to change the value. Also, the rest time never agrees even remotely from the screen to the posting. It's usually off by about an hour. I guess I should think about getting a new GPS.
