| no partners | | My wife and I hiked a combined loop using the Pass Mountain Trail and trails from the Peak 3004 Loop.
Starting from the Horse Staging Area in Usery Mountain Regional Park, we hiked east on Pass Mountain until we were able to cross the wash and get on the Bulldog Saddle Trail. We followed that trail to the saddle past Peak 3004 and then continued on until it rejoined the Pass Mountain Trail near the pass. We continued the long way around until we arrived back at the Trailhead. Along the way, we also visited the trailhead at Meridian and McDowell - neither of us had been there before.
We encountered a lot of other trail users along the way, including a mountain biker, trail runners, and numerous hikers. We stopped for a while on the Bulldog Saddle Trail to chat with a couple from Minnesota.
As we were arriving back at the Horse Staging Area, we saw two fire trucks pull into the lot. They were joining a Sheriff's vehicle who was already arrived. It appeared that they were organizing some sort of search and (maybe) rescue.
The trails were in mostly good condition with only one worrisome spot of erosion along the Pass Mountain Trail. My wife thought that the initial section of trail that we hiked was rockier and more eroded than normal, but I didn't think it looked much different from the last time we hiked it. If anything, it appeared to me to be a little better. |
