Well today I was going to do two shoes, ended up doing 3 with the last being kind of a double. It was the perfect day for the hike as I tackled the first hill and then down and over toward the shoes. Along the way I encountered a hiker and his german shepherd. I tried to engage him later in the hike as he seemed to be following my route. I think he was foreign. I was stopping a lot for photos of flora and he seemed to be stopping with the dog a lot.

There wasn't really any flora until I hit the trail that takes you by the shoes. There were quite a few big bloom poppies and then scattered scorpion weed and some that lined some of the trail. Even the little mammillaria cactus had their Christmas rings going on. It was just incredible out there flower-wise. So my question is this: are we getting spring bloom early which means we will get nothing in spring; especially without any winter rain? And since I'm not sure, I was taking more than my fair share of flora photos as we don't know when this will happen again in winter. I think I may have to start bringing my camera as my phone photos just can't capture the flora like I like.

There were a few hikers out, maybe a dozen that I saw on my route. I saw two bike riders and than another two as I made my way back to 38th Street. I am always impressed by the VOAZ and Irregular trail construction. It has taken a bit of a beating here and there from the rain but for the most part, still in good shape. I like this route as it gives me a little elevation in a short amount of miles; at least for me.

Forgot to add, I scampered again.

Scorpion Weed lined trails in a couple places. Poppies were popping, and they were big but scattered. Mammillaria also had their buds on.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
