Nice views from the peak especially since it was a clear day. The route up to Little Cat was steep but was short (.3 miles) so it wasn't too strenuous. From Cat Peak I took the Little Cat Trail, Star Pass Trail and a portion of the Explorer Trail to the Sunset Trail, returned via the old Star Pass Trail. The Trails are in good condition and easy to walk. These are heavily used by mountain bikers so they don't do anything to steep, as they would say in Math about functions, "they are well behaved". At one point on the Little Cat Trail I stepped aside to allow not one or two not even 3 but 20 bikers zoom by. Thought I was on the Santa Ana Freeway. After living in Tucson for 60 years and never hiking in the Tucson Mountains until recently, I can now say I've done about every trail there. I still want to hit Cat Mountain some time this year though. |
