I had parked about 30 feet beyond where trail crosses the road, but a concerned citizen decided I was a little too close to the crossing and my car would spook the horses. I was in a congenial mood, so I moved the car down another 20 feet or so.
Other than that encounter, I didn't see another soul all the way up Scorpion and on to Wild Horse to where it dumps into Usery Pass Road. At that point, I doubled back and then hung a left at the Wild Horse/Scorpion junction, and ran another 3 miles to where that trail dumps into Bush Highway just above what the short climb that the bikers call "Little Kong." From there, it was just shy of three miles on the road back to the car to complete the loop.
The desert is very green right now. A lot of lupine in full bloom in this area, and the saguaros are looking healthy.
A great time of year for an early morning stroll in the desert. |
