Microspikes were my method of traction today as the late morning snow was still hard packed and crispy. The ridge was bare, so I had to swing around and traverse up the more protected bowl side to maintain a snow-covered approach.
A couple of snowboarders beat me to the summit and headed down into the inner basin where they had stashed their mountain bikes for the shuttle back.
After a good break on the summit, I clicked into my bindings and began the absolutely delightful 1100-foot descent through the bowl, making sweeping turns in fantastically ideal spring conditions before reaching the groomed trail at the bottom of the catwalk. The rest of the day was spent making runs and enjoying the conditions on the peaks. |
