| no partners | | Two months early, and still too late. Had to clink my snowshoes on a few short sections of bare rock to make it through. Glad I started as early as I did. Though it was 30 down in Fort Valley, it was 45 at Snowbowl to start. Still the snow was crunchy and made spikes a good alternative for quicker steps.
Wind was as strong the forecast suggested and I ranged from shorts and a t-shirt to full winter gear. Couldn't have made the peak on snow cover much later in the morning as it had started to soften and that's a no go on the steep grade of that ridge.
Weatherford was untracked yet, so that also got crossed off the list. Bailed adding Humphreys and headed down before it got too soft to control the descent. Plenty of spiked feet, but plenty of others without the traction. I doubt anybody died, but that's got to be a slow and exhausting way to do it, especially as the day wears on.
Big prescribed burn at Mormon Lake kicking up a serious smoke plume all day. I drove by it on the way home and visibility was near zero. I'm sure the social media karens were losing their minds about the smoke. |
